I love you, but I have to agree with most of what your opposition has said here. 1v1 fights are a rare thing in eve, and while this is certainly a style, or type, of pvp--who can argue this it pits player versus player--it is not the only type of pvp, nor is it the only type of worthy pvp.
It is qualitatively different than small gang warfare, fleet warfare capital battles, etc.
1v1s are very much, as someone has said, like boxing matches. This might be fun for some, but not for all.
For some, like myself, what is most enjoyable about EVE pvp is small gang warfare. Its not just about your skills, your ship, and your mods. Its about fleet composition, ship fits aimed at maximizing your gangs effectiveness, team work, etc. To be honest it is FAR more satisfying for me to take your small fleet of 4 or 5 ships and beat fleets of 10 or 15. Far more satisfying than it would be for me to kill you in a solo match and maybe make 5 billion isk.
Lastly I'll mention to all you 0.0 clowns--you're on crack. 0.0 is not better, or more difficult than low-sec. Its an entirely different animal (and I might add 0.0 corps the wonder into low-sec often die in a fire). The rules are different, the tactics different and there less of the 100v100 fights.
You know, some of us don't like the ole' primary, pop, primary, pop, primary, pop, primary... lag... lag... primary... lag... pop... WTF ctd again... log back in, look I'm in a station 48 jumps away.
And last time I looked about 75% of our fights in low-sec are with other pirates and pvpers.
Cheers,

Respectfully, I agree right up to the part about low sec combat. Frankly, low sec combat has far to high a ratio of station games for my taste, and almost inevitably boils down to that level. It's a big 'ole safety net that is there whenever you want it.
No desperate bids to get your squad intact out of the system (and area), keep it together, and not get picked off as you try to outrun superior forces. few bouts of intense tactical maneuvering to gain a superior position, few battles of attrition (killing stragglers when you trick your opponent to another location and they get sloppy) to reduce your opponents numbers to a manageable level. One side or the other seems to inevitably just dock up, followed by the inevitable game of station tag.
Yes, low sec combat has it's own set of rules and strategies, but that ever present safety net can make it a less intense experience.
By the way, while 1v1 duels can indeed fall under the term PVP, it too is a very limited beast. Defense in a 2 ship battle is more powerful than offense, strategic planning (beyond slapping the best officer mods on that you can afford) is limited, tactics are virtually non-existent, and teamwork has no place. The depth of skill necessary to win in a 1v1 is nowhere near the level of skill and instinct necessary to be the victor in small gang or fleet combat. While you may respect the man who is fastest in the 100 meter dash for his ability within that narrow field of competition, you would in no way consider him superior to other athletes who excel in other track and field events. And if he bragged about his superiority because the decathlon champ either refused to sprint against him or simply lost, and then mocked him, you would consider him a bore at best.
Eh, as always, to each his own... although by your own definition you are not a care bear. So I think your argument is really a back handed way of trying to brag about your PVP skills while claiming to be a humble care bear. Somewhat original, but still transparent.
